2025 - Week 4

The Weekly Happenings  I was determined to not allow last week's problems or the Orange One to define the rest of the year. Despite all of the bad that happened, I looked forward to having a new phone and a nicer kitchen. I hoped the kitchen wouldn't become a saga like the bathroom reno was, but if it did, I was more prepared for it because of the bathroom. This helped me plan the kitchen reno much better than the bathroom. I didn't start the demo right away because I was still tired from antibiotics and the stress of all of this. I was a bit concerned about my sink order as they emailed me shipping information, then cancelled, then shipped, then cancelled, then shipped again. That left me hoping I got the right thing in a timely manner. It came and I was home to receive it! Regarding my new phone, I decided to gradually leave the Google ecosystem. I don't know what that may mean for my blog in the future, since it's currently on Blogger, but I'll worry about th...

2025 - Week 3

The Weekly Happenings  Credit to KC Green It has been a challenging week. I don't usually keep a tally of all the good and bad, but as bad things were piling up, I felt the need to do this. I think it's good to see the good after all the bad. I can handle a lot, but this week left me feeling broken. The Bad: - My ear infection from the holidays returned. - Fire alarms don't go well with ear infections. - Children screaming in infected ears is also not great. - A flat tire. - The pharmacist made a mistake on my prescription. - A broken bag. - My whole kitchen sink area and faucet need replacing. - David Lynch died this week. - Mom's deathiversary was this week. -  Starfinder  with friends was postponed yet again. - Google did an update that killed Pixel 4a phone batteries. - The antibiotics have a lovely side effect of joint pain. The Good: - A shampoo and conditioner change made my hair and scalp feel and look healthier. - I submitted three drafts for my volunteer posit...

Three Years.

My mom wasn't perfect.  For much of my life, she was a house wife. She was pretty bad at household chores. I don't think they were things she enjoyed. But we always had our basic needs met. She also always made sure the bills were paid. Prior to that, mom had been a social worker. They lived in Toronto. This was long before I was born. During my childhood, mom volunteered at a Salvation Army. I used to love hiding in the racks. Yeah, I know about their stance on homosexuality. When I was in high school, she took a delivery job. I'd go with her sometimes. One time, our van broke. We were on the military base that particular time. The person we had brought the restaurant membership to let us hang out while we waited for help. It always seemed like a strange job to me, but I'd often do the drop with the person because I had the energy to burn. It also felt good to help out. She loved finding us things at the thrift store or some yard sale. She was always thinking about us ...

2025 - Week 2

The Weekly Happenings I did not feel ready for Monday to be here this week. I wanted to go back to bed and hide from winter with a book. Alas, there are bills to pay. I also had a dentist appointment and sorely needed food I could eat that didn't make me itchy.  I designed a vest pattern for a future knit project once the table runner is done. I'm looking forward to it being finished someday. It's nice to get some long running projects completed. I also designed a pattern for a PWHL Ottawa scarf. I plan to start the vest next. Early in the week, I got notice that there would be another condo inspection. This one is strangely for the whole unit again, but under the guise of fire alarm inspection. In the past, they only checked that our smoke detectors were functional. At any rate, this made cleaning the rest of the condo a bigger priority for me this week.  I'm not shocked about Trudeau's resignation. There have been a number of the minority women in his cabinet sayi...

RIP Andrew Pyper

Rest in peace, Andrew.  I'm so thankful I had the chance to meet you at a reading many years ago.  The world has lost a great Canadian horror author.

2025 - Week 1

Weekly Happenings I know I keep changing formats on this blog. I feel like a section that is just me writing the weekly happenings out followed by the goals tracking section is the way to go. This week technically had a couple of 2024 days in it, but it's also the first week of a new year. Quite a transitional time. On Monday, I completed a touch up coat plus several coats of varathane on the underside of the shelf. My goal was to finish it before 2025 got here. I put it in place and planned to do the topside sealing from there. This allowed me to chip away at cleaning up my condo on the 31st. It's so nice seeing my vision realized. I'm so tired after the many weeks of sanding, filling, painting, and sealing. And when one is under 5 foot tall, it's so ridiculous to be moving an 8 foot by 1.5 foot board around. It also taught me that my ceilings are not 8 foot. I may get a light strip for the underside for movie ambience. I still don't know what I want to put on the ...
