Merry Monday – A Wonderful Weekend

IMG_20170605_092855On Friday, I went to see Wonder Woman. I was a little down as I couldn't find my Wonder Woman hoodie and also struggled to remember where my car keys were last. Normally, I'd just grab my spare set, but those are currently broken. When I got to the theatre, I had an epiphany. My place is tiny and as it's getting cleaner, I can more readily see the things I own. With my hoodie nowhere to be found, I realized it had to be in my car. It was! I stripped in the parking lot and donned my hoodie. I was now ready to meet my friend and her brother.

We were going to a regular viewing instead of 3D along with her brother. We had fun playing Timeplay. Then enjoyed the trailers. And then the screen went blank.

The movie wouldn't play.

As we were close to the door, I ducked out to let them know there was a serious problem. Then I seized the moment for a bathroom break. When I returned the lights were on and we were waiting to hear if they could fix it.

They couldn't.

But hope was not lost! They upgraded us to 3D for free and I thoroughly enjoyed every second of it. Save a few historical errors, the movie surpassed my wildest expectations. Though, given that it is a DC movie, those weren't super high in the first place. My dream has come true. Not only has DC produced an excellent film, but my favourite superhero has her own movie. I'll be talking about the movie more later this week.

Oh, we got posters for free too. Maybe Gal Gadot will come to Comiccon at some point and I can get her to sign it... Goals :)

ROW80LogocopySpeaking of goals, I've been sucking at checking in on the ROW80 site (sorry), but here's where I'm at on mine:

Cleaning: I've reorganized my movie collection, so they're all in my entertainment unit and not all over my living room. The top of my stove has nothing on it. Hopefully, I can keep it this way. I need to catch up on my dishes (again). I have much more to clean, especially in my bedroom/office/sewing room, but the living room will be okay soon if I can ever get my kitchen drawers back together.

Kitchen Reno: I need to find another option for 2 drawer bottoms. Unless the price of fiberglass isn't as bad as it seemed last time I was at Home Depot. Their labeling of that particular rack seemed a mess. The thin wood just isn't working and given wood's nature to expand and contract, maybe that's for the best anyway? I could figure out a way to widen the slots so the wood would work, but I'm not sure I have the skill and I know I don't have the tools. I could try and make a poor man's router, but I think that isn't really what I'm inclined to do. I could rent a router. I could also make one drawer slightly narrower as I have another piece of plexiglass, but it's about 1/2-1 inch narrower than I need.

Screenplay: I'm kind of sucking at actually putting words down. I have 2,428 words. But screenplays are different. Some feature length screenplays range between 7,500 and 20,000 words, so I could be a third of the way done.

Novels: I'm waiting to hear on one as you know if you've been following my blog. The other is hard to say what my actual word count is because I have blog posts in there from my old derby blog and they make the word count around 68,000. Those posts are part of my research, I guess you could say. I'm having fun writing it and I think that's what matters most.

Songs: This is a thing I'm writing now. I've written one and have put down some lyrics for a second one.

Course: I'm doing decent at keeping up with the workload on the transmedia course so far. I'm having trouble deciding if I want to pay for the certificate. On one hand, it adds to my artistic resume. On the other, I'm more interested in the knowledge itself and applying it to my own work. If I don't want it, I can skip the assignments and just do them for myself. If I do want it, I have to do the assignments. Aside from the fact that I'm busy, this is one of those things where I could be spending my time actually making the thing rather than getting marks from other amateurs. And the proof that I have the skill will be in the product I create, so I don't really need to spend the cash on the piece of paper and can save it for 3 months worth of martial arts.

Fitness: I'm stuck at 45 seconds for the plank. I'm hoping to get through it soon. My right ankle is very sore today, so it's probably good I'll be at a writing thing on Tuesday instead of martial arts. Admittedly, it's more likely that the music event where I tried to dance hip-hop is what has my ankle upset. More to come on that later this week.

Sewing: I intend to get at this today after my writing. I ripped up some test fabric to play around with this afternoon.

Social Media: I'm reducing my Facebook usage. It's taking up time I need for accomplishing my goals and spending time with people. Something I'm liking about Twitter is that it doesn't feel like I have to keep up with every post that comes across my feed. I can be more casual with it. I like that. Instagram and YouTube too.

Anyway, I gotta get working on my writing projects.

Salut,
R~

2020 Vision

Mostly, I’ve been planning for the new year, but I discovered I know Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. It was a recollection under the influence that brought this to light. I also discovered I still suck at drawing, but I’m okay with that. I used to think I had to be good at everything, and I’ve realized that’s just not so. Some friends and I recently hit up a local board game pub. It was a pretty fun night. The first game was Balderdash and I was terrible at it. Because I was the writer in the group, some of my friends thought I should be more embarrassed about it and hide the fact that I don’t spend all my free time learning advanced vocabulary. But I’m not upset about it. Why? Two reasons: 1. I now know what I don’t know. 2. If one takes a close look at the top selling novels on the market, the level of the language used is not the level of many of the words in Balderdash. Not that I’m comparing my own work to those, but audience is what matters in writing. To me, it is far better to e...

Merry Monday - A beautiful day for taxes

[caption id="attachment_4711" align="alignright" width="300"] Image created using Bit Strips.[/caption] With French done, I have a lot of other things to catch up on. It seems like I have Mount Everest ahead of me, but I'm just going through the list one at a time. I've gotten a couple of things done and some started. Renovations Before the weekend, my new kitchen floor was installed. After the credits that Jiffy gave me, install cost less than $40. The old floor was light grey peel and stick tile, which was peeling itself up on the edges. Because I couldn't get all the glue up from the floor underneath the peel and stick, I needed to put new floor in. Oh, I started peeling it up with a hair dryer. I really don't recommend that. It doesn't get hot enough to work well. It was taking around 20 minutes each tile with the hair dryer. With a proper heat gun, a couple hours for the whole floor. Fortifying Friday - Rejection

Yesterday, I received my first rejection from an agent. It stung. It wasn't that it was bad. It was worded in a way that it may have even been personally written. Regardless, rejection never feels good unless you were secretly hoping to stay home and do nothing when a friend made plans with you. Then it feels great! I might be an introvert ;) Anyway, it hurts a bit extra when you have other things going on. Between the worries of the state of the world and being unemployed, it felt much like being kicked while I was already down. The agent said she couldn't connect with my book though she really wanted to. She also said not to take her rejection as any kind of sign that I should give up. It was nice as far as rejections go. So, I lay there for a bit. Then I let my friends know via social media. Several said that I had hit a milestone and I should try to collect as many as possible this year. Rejections, they said, were a badge of honour awarded for putting myself out there. See...
