Overloaded - ROW80 R1-5

Today, a colleague asked me how I was managing to work three roles right now. I said that sometimes I didn't know. The truth is that I've been here before. Years ago, when I was doing project management and/or project coordination, the place I was working at was being divested. For those who don't know what that means, a chunk of the company was being sold off. A number of people jumped ship and those left all took on extra duties.

But the skills I learned for managing projects are ones I use time and again when life gets hectic like this. I create excel tracker sheets to help me keep on top of things because if it just stays in my email, it gets lost. My planner helps me too.

I also place a more important role on eating healthy, so that I have the energy to withstand it all and to help prevent colds.

Things like knitting, reading, TV, and music help lower my stress levels too.

And because I'm doing so much, my writing isn't moving forward as much as I would like it to be. It should calm down around March though.

I'm just not sure when I'll have time to take the last of my vacation time.

And I expect when things do calm down is when I'll come down with a cold because that seems to happen.

My household chores are another area where I fall behind because I'm tired!

FINANCES

I have been managing to stay on top of things and have started putting some savings aside. I've reduced how often I get something expensive at Starbucks, so that will help.

FITNESS

I have sucked this week, but I forgot that I used to make electrolyte drinks back when I did roller derby and I haven't been feeling great because of it. I'm trying to get back to a decent level of hydration before I get back to my workouts. Hopefully tomorrow.

HOME

I should be able to get my recliner this weekend! Other than that, I need to take the wheels off my desk to lower it to a better height for me.

SELF-CARE

I have been finding reading to be annoying on the train. There is always some really loud person blathering on about something for the whole train to here. I've switched to knitting and podcasts for a bit and I'm feeling more relaxed.

WRITING

Sparks
- I'm unsure which is my true word count as Scrivener has it in two places and they are 39 words apart.
Project Statistics: 75,717
Project Targets: 75,678

The Mockumentary
- No progress this week thus far.

2020 Vision

Mostly, I’ve been planning for the new year, but I discovered I know Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. It was a recollection under the influence that brought this to light. I also discovered I still suck at drawing, but I’m okay with that. I used to think I had to be good at everything, and I’ve realized that’s just not so. Some friends and I recently hit up a local board game pub. It was a pretty fun night. The first game was Balderdash and I was terrible at it. Because I was the writer in the group, some of my friends thought I should be more embarrassed about it and hide the fact that I don’t spend all my free time learning advanced vocabulary. But I’m not upset about it. Why? Two reasons: 1. I now know what I don’t know. 2. If one takes a close look at the top selling novels on the market, the level of the language used is not the level of many of the words in Balderdash. Not that I’m comparing my own work to those, but audience is what matters in writing. To me, it is far better to e...

Merry Monday - Lots To Do And Little Time To Do It In

[caption id="attachment_4711" align="alignright" width="300"] Image created using Bit Strips.[/caption] And thus we return to our regularly scheduled programming. Well, mostly. The colleges are still on strike. We had 21 days that had classes in my program prior to the strike. We've had 18 days worth of strike where we should have had classes. The strike has been longer than that for most students. I don't have Friday classes nor are any of mine on the weekends. I slowly plod on because I don't know what else to do. I watch videos on YouTube from the greats like Syd Field. I read my text books, though I could be doing more of that I suppose. I work on my assignments. I've been working on the first act of my feature film script, but I realized that I have other assignments that were due before that one that I should focus on instead. Namely my short film, my 10-minute play, and my TV episode. I may work on my TV episode today because I'...

Warrior Wednesday - Cross-training

[caption id="attachment_11040" align="alignright" width="300"] Image created using Bitmoji[/caption] Martial arts are a great workout, but it can be easy to forget that we need to do other exercises to ensure total body fitness. That being said, it doesn't have to take a lot of time or be a miserable experience. One of my Iaido mentors, 8th Dan Hatekenaka Sensei, does hot yoga when she isn't practicing Iaido. She practices Iaido every day whether there is class or not. Now Iaido is great for many things. Swinging a sword about takes *some* strength, so it works the upper body. It's important to mention that we try to get a sword that is a reasonable weight. Many are only a couple of pounds because they are a giant razor and don't need to be heavy in order to cut things. Also, a light sword should be able to be swung as thought it were heavy and a heavy one as though it were light. It also is helpful to prevent repetitive strain injuries. W...
