ROW80 R2 May 24, 2020 - Growing and Flowing

I've been pretty terrible at checking in for this round of ROW80. The past month or so, I didn't get much writing done, only fighting in my own head about my WIP. But sometimes one needs that in order to figure the story out.

HOME

My coffee table is plodding along. I have two finished crates (one that is currently drying), and two yet to start. My arms need a break from the sanding. It's worth noting that the wood used for these doesn't come completely smooth after sanding with multiple grits and that's a bit annoying. I need some more supplies to finish the remaining two.

What else have I been doing? I have a young garden started on my ledge that will eventually move to my balcony. I plan to get some squirrel deterrents before I put anything out there.

I have 3 cherry tomato plants growing. Two are strong, the third is going really slow. To the point I'm wondering if it is even the same kind of tomatoes. The stalk looks like tomato, but why is it growing so much slower?

I have two jalapeno plants that are going well and a cayenne that has finally surfaced. The other cayenne is still in hiding. Those do take longer though.

I have a few other things to plant, but will need more soil, netting, and perhaps a motion sensing sprayer.

Not this year, squirrels!

I have a few large buckets to put the tomatoes in eventually. I have medium pots the peppers will be in as well. I have green onions to plant, lettuce, spinach, and maybe carrots. It will be fun trying to do it all on a balcony in containers.

I have seeds for strawberries, but they're complicated. Something about planting them, then freezing them, then some more steps. We'll see on that. Maybe I should try some potatoes too...

While putting a cricket outside this morning, I noticed what I think is a yellow jacket hanging around my empty watering can. Not good.

MUSIC

I'm currently working on transposing a Nirvana song for Kalimba. It's one of the more challenging things I've done, but it's like a fun puzzle. Kalimba has no sharps or flats, so I have to figure out the keys a song is using and then see what options I have to stay in the key and make an arrangement that works for it.

Technically one could do sharps and flats if they were recording either by retuning the Kalimba or using pitch correction, but one would have to have a wide assortment of Kalimbas were they to try and perform using sharps and flats, so it's actually easier to make a different arrangement of the music and less expensive. Not that I plan to perform anytime soon. Mostly, I just wanted a small and easily portable instrument. Other friends play drums and various string instruments, so I wanted to be different.

WRITING

I have a new focus for my screenplay as I briefly talked about last post. Since I changed who the main character is, I've been able to better see and connect with the story. Hopefully that means others will relate to it better as well.

The Mockumentary: 15/120 pages
Sparks: 77,117/80,000 words

2024 - Week 5

It was still January for most of this week, a.k.a. The Neverending Month. Then it became February!  Each month, I do pull a card from my Music Oracles deck. Last month was Bob Marley. February's card is Nina Simone. A piano playing rebel & multiple genre legend will hopefully make for a phenomenal month ahead. I still haven't done a goals post for 2024. January was a lot. My goals for this year are: - Complete Sparker  and query agents. - Complete The Curse of...  and submit it to a screenplay contest. - Complete the declutter of Tiny Condo. - Blog at least once per week. - Cross train for curling and softball. - Learn piano. - Self-care with crafts, reading, gaming, and sports. I've tweaked my schedule to make this happen. I'd also like a partner, but I feel weird about setting it as a goal.

Frisky Friday - Maple Syrup Porn

[caption id="attachment_10523" align="alignright" width="300"] Image created using Bitmoji[/caption] While delving into some Canadian film history this week, I learned that there is a thing called Maple Syrup Porn. I laughed when I read the term. I thought, "Is our adult film industry really called Maple Syrup Porn?" It's not. Some is Canadian, but it mostly refers to getting around censorship of sex. It was not only common in Quebec due to religion, but several places in the US. You can read more about it here . If you're looking to heat things up this weekend, consider a sweet old film from the early days of the sexual revolution. Maybe even drizzle a little syrup on your partner ;) Guid cheerio the nou, R~

2024 - Week 43

Arts & Crafts  I started a summer quilt. I got the fabric a long time ago and it was a straightforward quilt as I just had to join the 20 fat quarters together. I'll need a backing fabric and a border to complete it, but I figured it's worth doing while the weather continues to be summery. I'm thinking a white backing and pink for the border. I've made progress on my Fairy Cross-Stitch, but there is a lot to go yet.  Decluttering & Minimalism I started the week by working on the space to sand my shelf. I didn't get through it all on Monday with work and everything else that day, but it was closer than it was before. Tuesday was curling, so I couldn't the shelf done then. I was really tired on Wednesday because I'm not used to curling being so late yet. Thursday was the last day of softball. It was Friday before I could really work on the shelf, though I kept working on the workspace. The packed weekend left me no time to do this, but I realistically ...
