Sewing Class!

I had my first sewing class today. We're starting really basic; we hand stitched. I learned the cross stitch and the slip stitch. I prefer the slip, but there are reasons to use the cross. We also did hidden cross.

I learned how to pull the fabric to create a straight edge.

I learned to sew with only one thread instead of doubling it.

We did double hems and sewed a button with a shank on.

We went over equipment and uses for things.

Most people in the class are around my age group.

The teacher is fun. She said she won't give us homework because she knows we have lives haha.

So I need a few more tools for next week. I'm to bring my machine, it's book, and a sewing book (my book may be more ancient than the teacher's). I'm glad I got a wheeled case for my machine.

She asked what experience we have with sewing and I guess I've tried more than others in the class between attempts at quilting and costumes, but I explained that I can't make petite shirts that allow for my arm muscles or bust.

A few of us are there, in part, to make costumes for Comiccon and Hallowe'en.

It was a two hour class, but it didn't feel like it. Two hours to sew two small hems and a button.

I'm glad I decided to finally take sewing classes.

Here is a picture of my cross stitches:

There are 9 days of class in total and I'll probably sign up for the costume workshop too.

She thought my slip stitches were great and my cross stitches were like some kind of messed up Celtic knot pattern haha.

I usually sleep in more on Saturday, so I might need a nap before baking brownies, doing coursework, and writing.

Ciao,
R~

2024 - Week 5

It was still January for most of this week, a.k.a. The Neverending Month. Then it became February!  Each month, I do pull a card from my Music Oracles deck. Last month was Bob Marley. February's card is Nina Simone. A piano playing rebel & multiple genre legend will hopefully make for a phenomenal month ahead. I still haven't done a goals post for 2024. January was a lot. My goals for this year are: - Complete Sparker  and query agents. - Complete The Curse of...  and submit it to a screenplay contest. - Complete the declutter of Tiny Condo. - Blog at least once per week. - Cross train for curling and softball. - Learn piano. - Self-care with crafts, reading, gaming, and sports. I've tweaked my schedule to make this happen. I'd also like a partner, but I feel weird about setting it as a goal.

Frisky Friday - Maple Syrup Porn

[caption id="attachment_10523" align="alignright" width="300"] Image created using Bitmoji[/caption] While delving into some Canadian film history this week, I learned that there is a thing called Maple Syrup Porn. I laughed when I read the term. I thought, "Is our adult film industry really called Maple Syrup Porn?" It's not. Some is Canadian, but it mostly refers to getting around censorship of sex. It was not only common in Quebec due to religion, but several places in the US. You can read more about it here . If you're looking to heat things up this weekend, consider a sweet old film from the early days of the sexual revolution. Maybe even drizzle a little syrup on your partner ;) Guid cheerio the nou, R~
