Slashing Goals

Lots of updates. Last week was a bit of a tire-ing week. That was terrible and I'm not sorry about it.

Declutter

I took a slight detour on this goal and decluttered my balcony. I felt it was important for my mental health to have a little outdoor space and it was a quick thing. It's funny how I can dread something that ends up only taking a couple of hours.

I keep putting off listing items because I keep having things to do that take me away from home. I don't like to waste my time or anyone else's. Still, I should just get them up there. I'll feel better and hopefully they won't take to long to get rid of.

Goal 1: Put items up on marketplace. [July]

Goal 2: Plan next steps in the declutter.

Finances

My tires have been changed and the winters have been stored. I felt quite unburdened after I got this done. Almost like I was finally getting my shit together.

I'm not sure I can really afford the calipers right now with the Bank of Canada changing rates and such. I don't know if I'll even be able to get an appointment with my advisor as it's likely a lot of people are trying to get in right now.

Goal 1: Get the tires changed/stored and the calipers handled on my car. [July - PARTIALLY DONE]

Goal 2: Book an appointment with my advisor to see if there is something I can do like take a small amount of my RRSP to wipe it all out, then get promptly back to contributing. [August]

Fitness

I feel like a dumbass, but I finally got my bicycle tires to accept a proper amount of air. It turns out that my tires will not inflate fully if there is any weight at all on them, like including the light weight of the bicycle itself. I guess I might not need to sell my original tires and tubes, but I feel more confident with the ones I am using now anyway. I swear that my dad never had to door this when we were younger, but at least I've figured it out.

An odd thing, the medal for the Paris challenge already came though I'm not done it. I don't know if I'll do another from that company any time soon. I strongly prefer The Conqueror Challenges.

I started practicing yoga this week. I'm mostly using YouTube though I have a 4 part DVD yoga workout as well that I plan to get to at some point. I feel like this was a good way to start the day.

Goal 1: Finish the Paris challenge. [July]

Goal 2: Sign up for the LotR challenge. [August]

Goal 3: Purchase a rowing machine that folds up. [September]

Music

No real update here, just listening to a lot of music and dancing to it for more exercise.

Goal 1: Continue researching the genre [July-September]

Goal 2: Come up with a practice routine. [August]

Twitch Update

I'm super close to Affiliate. I just need more people chatting in my stream to be able to apply for it. Of course, it might help if they could see the game I'm playing. It's really dark and I only just figured out how to fix that. The origami thing isn't working out as hoped, so I'll likely be taking a different direction.

Goal 1: Update the about list with your commands [July - DONE]

Goal 2: Get to Affiliate [July]

Goal 3: Install origami holder [July - DONE]

Writing

I've begun looking at the second half of the book. I really need to organize my notes better, so it's easy to see what has been added and what is outstanding. I also feel like there's too much dialogue in Chapter 14, but can't currently figure out how else to do it.

Goal 1: Add music to Popcorn Girl [July]

Goal 2: Edit 3+ chapters of Sparker [July-September]

2020 Vision

Mostly, I’ve been planning for the new year, but I discovered I know Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. It was a recollection under the influence that brought this to light. I also discovered I still suck at drawing, but I’m okay with that. I used to think I had to be good at everything, and I’ve realized that’s just not so. Some friends and I recently hit up a local board game pub. It was a pretty fun night. The first game was Balderdash and I was terrible at it. Because I was the writer in the group, some of my friends thought I should be more embarrassed about it and hide the fact that I don’t spend all my free time learning advanced vocabulary. But I’m not upset about it. Why? Two reasons: 1. I now know what I don’t know. 2. If one takes a close look at the top selling novels on the market, the level of the language used is not the level of many of the words in Balderdash. Not that I’m comparing my own work to those, but audience is what matters in writing. To me, it is far better to e...

Fortifying Friday - Rejection

Yesterday, I received my first rejection from an agent. It stung. It wasn't that it was bad. It was worded in a way that it may have even been personally written. Regardless, rejection never feels good unless you were secretly hoping to stay home and do nothing when a friend made plans with you. Then it feels great! I might be an introvert ;) Anyway, it hurts a bit extra when you have other things going on. Between the worries of the state of the world and being unemployed, it felt much like being kicked while I was already down. The agent said she couldn't connect with my book though she really wanted to. She also said not to take her rejection as any kind of sign that I should give up. It was nice as far as rejections go. So, I lay there for a bit. Then I let my friends know via social media. Several said that I had hit a milestone and I should try to collect as many as possible this year. Rejections, they said, were a badge of honour awarded for putting myself out there. See...

Thoughtful Thursday - Dental Access

I haven't made use of it yet as I discovered it only this week, but there are free dental screenings in Ottawa for people who have a low income. I'm not sure what happens at these things, but I imagine they're rather like the once or twice yearly visits we had in grade school from the health unit where they checked our teeth. Anyway, I thought I'd mention that in case anyone is in need. There is a schedule with the locations listed and I'm guessing it's hard to get there early enough to get seen, but I'll check it out soon. I've been using dental products that are supposed to repair and whiten. I'm unsure they are working, but I figured they were worth a try. Also, I hear if you add activated charcoal to your toothbrush before the toothpaste, it helps whiten too. It makes a hell of a mess, but I tried it. I think it might take a while to whiten, but my teeth are definitely cleaner, so I think it really does help with plaque. Activated charcoal is als...
