2024 - Week 28

Arts & Crafts

I started and stopped my costume due to how busy the weekend was. I visited a monthly craft group and I found it a better time than others I've been to. The vibe was chill and people were doing a wider variety of crafts. They had had a materials swap earlier in the day and I was able to get some goodies out of what was left. I got some yarn that is quite nice and I'm looking forward to making a sweater vest from it eventually.

Decluttering & Minimalism

I've not made any progress here. In my defense, it was my birthday on Friday and all I wanted to do was nothing when I wasn't spending time with my friends.

Gaming & Streaming

I've been making a lot of rich soil and changed my farm to a tower setup that takes up less ground space. I'm working on the flax level. I'm going to have so much wool from that without dealing with sheep.

Goal Setting & Tracking

Arts & Crafts: Begin costume for Drag & Balls.
Decluttering & Minimalism: Clean up craft room. For real this time. Finish door stuff.
Gaming & Streaming: No current goal beyond having fun.
Lifestyle & Sports: Continue working on getting my full range of motion back in my shoulder.
Music & Songwriting: Finish a module in each course.

Lifestyle & Sports

On Monday, I went to a pop up Hip Hop class. It was OK. After that, I learned about some other dance styles I'm more interested in.

I had been taking courses in web development, but I hated it. So I stopped torturing myself.

On Wednesday, the plan was Tai Chi. There was also predicted to be enough rain to potentially cause flooding, so I wasn't super excited for the drive to Orleans. It turns out, the class was cancelled, but they didn't email me about it. I emailed to ask whether I would be getting a partial refund or if another class would be added to the schedule.

Thursday brought a massage. I learned that my range of motion has improved some. We did some work to improve it further and I have a modification to an old exercise plus a new one. I've begun to feel when my posture is bad sometimes.

Friday was my birthday. In the morning, I hung out in my friend Danielle Allard's Twitch stream where she sung me Happy Birthday and it was lovely. It was also great hanging out with that community.

Next, I went out for a Starbucks drink and shopped for books, dollar store fun, and succulents.

For succulents attempt 2, I need a few more, but this time they will stay inside the condo and away from the squirrels. I haven't figured out the layout yet. I'll get a few more to fill the space and have a nice little indoor garden.

I got some new books that I'm excited about. I've heard a lot about Gideon The Ninth, so I'm excited to finally have a copy.

I found the so sweet yass! notebook at the dollar store. I don't know what project it will be for, but it was the only one and I had to have it.

After that, it was time to relax at home for a bit before softball. We won our game, my team sang Happy Birthday to me, and there was a double rainbow.

Saturday was a queer comedy night where a friend was performing. I had so many laughs with friends. It was a great night.

After learning that Tai Chi was cancelled completely, I pivoted and decided I would do Zumba at the community centre right by my house. I may eventually get a membership at the nearest rec complex, but I'm saving up for an electric violin, so I'm not in a rush. Hopefully, Zumba will be fun. I like that it's really close to home.

Sunday's plan was a haunted walk. I enjoyed being taken to various places in the city. I particularly liked Sapper's Bridge because it has neat alcoves. Our guide was cute though she seemed a bit nervous.

Music & Songwriting

I'm currently taking a Coursera music theory course. I'm loving it. It is connecting some dots for me that I was a bit stumped on before.

Reading & Writing

I finished Stone Butch Blues. What a ride that was. I lent it to a friend and they have already finished it. We both agree that it is a quintessential queer read.

2020 Vision

Mostly, I’ve been planning for the new year, but I discovered I know Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. It was a recollection under the influence that brought this to light. I also discovered I still suck at drawing, but I’m okay with that. I used to think I had to be good at everything, and I’ve realized that’s just not so. Some friends and I recently hit up a local board game pub. It was a pretty fun night. The first game was Balderdash and I was terrible at it. Because I was the writer in the group, some of my friends thought I should be more embarrassed about it and hide the fact that I don’t spend all my free time learning advanced vocabulary. But I’m not upset about it. Why? Two reasons: 1. I now know what I don’t know. 2. If one takes a close look at the top selling novels on the market, the level of the language used is not the level of many of the words in Balderdash. Not that I’m comparing my own work to those, but audience is what matters in writing. To me, it is far better to e...

Merry Monday - Methods

Today, I had my visual fields test and eye check up. The visual fields test is rather like a crappy videogame. You press a button each time you see a light. It's crappy because it isn't fun to sit in an uncomfortable way while you wear an eye patch and you aren't allowed to move. Because my eyes run dry, it's extra uncomfortable for me. I have to blink multiple times to keep my eyes from heading into emergency tearing mode. Sometimes we even have to pause. We tried to pause today and the machine got angry and decided we had to start over. I was almost done with the right eye. In theory, the tests aren't that long, but preservatives in eye drops and bright lights all cause me pain. My eye doctor doesn't do the puff of air to check for glaucoma. She uses advanced photographic imaging to look at my optic nerve and the health of my eye along with her own eyes and bright lights. Does that mean the puff of air was no good at checking for glaucoma? Not at all. Many eye...

Merry Monday - A beautiful day for taxes

[caption id="attachment_4711" align="alignright" width="300"] Image created using Bit Strips.[/caption] With French done, I have a lot of other things to catch up on. It seems like I have Mount Everest ahead of me, but I'm just going through the list one at a time. I've gotten a couple of things done and some started. Renovations Before the weekend, my new kitchen floor was installed. After the credits that Jiffy gave me, install cost less than $40. The old floor was light grey peel and stick tile, which was peeling itself up on the edges. Because I couldn't get all the glue up from the floor underneath the peel and stick, I needed to put new floor in. Oh, I started peeling it up with a hair dryer. I really don't recommend that. It doesn't get hot enough to work well. It was taking around 20 minutes each tile with the hair dryer. With a proper heat gun, a couple hours for the whole floor.
