2024 - Week 30

Arts & Crafts

I did not work on my cape at all. I did visit Michaels for some items I've been wanting for awhile like a woodburning kit. I also found this kit for $5 on clearance:

I know Hama beads didn't work well for me, but I love Wonder Woman. I have no plans to make this anytime soon. Perhaps in the winter as it's very large and I'll likely want to frame it.

Decluttering & Minimalism

My hats have been gathered into one clear bin. My music stand has been moved to another location for now, so I can practice more often.

Gaming & Streaming

In Minecraft this week, I finished my garage, I started several cars, I built an arboretum, I built the bulk of a museum, and I mined a ton of gold.

Goal Setting & Tracking

Arts & Crafts: Get cape 50% complete.
Decluttering & Minimalism: Place all headwear into one container. Get set up better to practice recorder.
Gaming & Streaming: Build an underground garage to house my cars in Minecraft. Make several more cars first to gauge size.
Lifestyle & Sports: Zumba, softball, and walking more are my goals for this week.
Music & Songwriting: Learn Ode to Joy on recorder. Get a lesson done in Music Theory.
Reading & Writing: Attend Silent Book Club in my area. Edit Chapter 16.

Lifestyle & Sports

This week, I made some changes. My lingering rotator issue is partly because my muscles have not been relaxing enough. They're still very hard. I decided to look at all the different nutritional reasons that could help including magnesium*, vitamin D, chamomile, protein, blueberries, cherries, cayenne, lavender, curcumin, pomegranate juice, arnica, capsaicin, CBD, peppermint oil, lemongrass, comfrey**, electrolytes, menthol, and camphor.

*Too much can cause diarrhea, so I'm taking a half tablet every two days.
**Interacts with Tylenol negatively in the liver. Not that I have any, but it's important to note.

That was a long list, but I'm having a couple of things every day like a blueberry smoothie that has banana in it. I think it's starting to work. My mood is improving too. As with many things, I wish I had figured this out sooner. I had tried a bit of magnesium before and Vitamin D, but I didn't specifically go searching for foods that could help. It could be something else in one of the foods, but all that I care about is that it's helping. Blueberries, like all antioxidants, are also good for reducing allergies, so it's a nice bonus. They're also my favourite berry. I had a great aunt who owned a patch and have a fond memory of visiting her in Sudbury. Unfortunately, the next time I saw her was in her casket, but that's life sometimes.

Part of what started me on this was thinking back to how I was eating when I was in roller derby and my body was in much better shape until I got hurt. I was having a lot of antioxidants and they were hugely helpful for my allergies that summer.

On Friday, I had a weird moment where I accidentally threw the ball to my pitcher overhanded. It was a pretty pathetic throw, but I had no pain! I guess it's time to start practicing my throwing. I plan to use a tennis ball at a nearby school wall. It's smaller and lighter, so it should be helpful to train for now. I think what has also helped has been the added weight to the pendulum exercise.

Music & Songwriting

Honestly, I got distracted getting things set up in Minecraft and with other life things that have been going on, so I haven't done my lessons. I did practice Ode to Joy though. Also, I'm set up for future success now, so hopefully that will help.

Reading & Writing

Silent Book Club was OK. I find it's good for ensuring I sit and read for an hour, but I'm really tired of trying to meet new people. Work has been a lot lately, so I've been feeling worn out and everything, including my writing has suffered as a result. Luckily, a long weekend is on the horizon. While I don't have the holiday off, a lot of people will take it off and I should have a bit of time to catch my breath.

2020 Vision

Mostly, I’ve been planning for the new year, but I discovered I know Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. It was a recollection under the influence that brought this to light. I also discovered I still suck at drawing, but I’m okay with that. I used to think I had to be good at everything, and I’ve realized that’s just not so. Some friends and I recently hit up a local board game pub. It was a pretty fun night. The first game was Balderdash and I was terrible at it. Because I was the writer in the group, some of my friends thought I should be more embarrassed about it and hide the fact that I don’t spend all my free time learning advanced vocabulary. But I’m not upset about it. Why? Two reasons: 1. I now know what I don’t know. 2. If one takes a close look at the top selling novels on the market, the level of the language used is not the level of many of the words in Balderdash. Not that I’m comparing my own work to those, but audience is what matters in writing. To me, it is far better to e...

Merry Monday - Methods

Today, I had my visual fields test and eye check up. The visual fields test is rather like a crappy videogame. You press a button each time you see a light. It's crappy because it isn't fun to sit in an uncomfortable way while you wear an eye patch and you aren't allowed to move. Because my eyes run dry, it's extra uncomfortable for me. I have to blink multiple times to keep my eyes from heading into emergency tearing mode. Sometimes we even have to pause. We tried to pause today and the machine got angry and decided we had to start over. I was almost done with the right eye. In theory, the tests aren't that long, but preservatives in eye drops and bright lights all cause me pain. My eye doctor doesn't do the puff of air to check for glaucoma. She uses advanced photographic imaging to look at my optic nerve and the health of my eye along with her own eyes and bright lights. Does that mean the puff of air was no good at checking for glaucoma? Not at all. Many eye...

Merry Monday - A beautiful day for taxes

[caption id="attachment_4711" align="alignright" width="300"] Image created using Bit Strips.[/caption] With French done, I have a lot of other things to catch up on. It seems like I have Mount Everest ahead of me, but I'm just going through the list one at a time. I've gotten a couple of things done and some started. Renovations Before the weekend, my new kitchen floor was installed. After the credits that Jiffy gave me, install cost less than $40. The old floor was light grey peel and stick tile, which was peeling itself up on the edges. Because I couldn't get all the glue up from the floor underneath the peel and stick, I needed to put new floor in. Oh, I started peeling it up with a hair dryer. I really don't recommend that. It doesn't get hot enough to work well. It was taking around 20 minutes each tile with the hair dryer. With a proper heat gun, a couple hours for the whole floor.
